What a crazy few weeks this has been. From catching a flight to Washington, DC to arriving in Oban by boat. I couldn’t have wished for a better arrival. We came in when the sun started to set and were accompanied by lots of small boats who sailed all the way to welcome us. Together with a nice scenery of mountains and cliffs, it was truly a-ma -zing.
Oban was great as well. The fun thing about this stopover was that it took place in a town/small village. This led to the fact that almost the whole place was up to date with the Clipper Race. Store windows were painted with quotes like ‘Welcome Clipper’ and restaurants even offered Clipper Race cocktails.
I loved the landscape in Oban and even went for a hike. Sadly we did a detour and did not manage to make it to our pre-planned point, but nevertheless, we still had fun and were able to enjoy the view. We also met with our sponsor and spent a few nights with him and the other ambassadors. Jaap, I don’t know if you will read this, but I want to thank you again for the nice time in Oban! I think I can speak for all the ambassadors by saying that we had a lovely time with you.
For now, the race is almost over. The circle is almost complete. From starting my training in March and looking over to Portsmouth and the spinnaker tower, to seeing the spinnaker tower again in two days. It’s crazy to think that when we arrive the race is not only over for me but also for the round-the-worlders.
Instead of doing just one leg and going home while the race is still continuous, the race will now really be done when I’m also done. I’m looking forward to celebrating the end of it and having a great party on the 27th!
