Racing round the world is no simple feat, we’ve compiled some facts that you might not have thought about when it comes to planning for the world’s longest yacht race.

- Tie every warp, line, sheet and halyard together from the Clipper Race fleet and the ropes will stretch for a massive 15 kilometres – that’s twice the height of Mount Everest.

- After the Clipper 11-12 Race, the fleets will have raced more than 2.6 million miles since the first edition back in 1996. That’s to the equivalent of travelling to moon and back eleven times.

- During the Clipper Race the teams will get through something in the region of 17,500 loo rolls, or 438,000 metres of toilet paper. That’s the equivalent distance of flying from London to Paris.

- Ocean racing is thirsty work and the mother watches will serve an almost constant stream of hot and cold drinks. The twelve teams will slurp their way through 293,000 tea bags while they are at sea.

- Even before the race has started the crews will have completed a combined total of almost 500,000 training miles.
