A guided tour of a Clipper 70 with Unicef Skipper Ian Wiggin
09 October 2019
Ever wondered what the Clipper Race yachts were actually like? Thanks to Unicef Skipper Ian Wiggin, here's your chance to tour a Clipper 70 without even having to leave the comfort of your own home.
The eleven Clipper Race 70-foot yachts make up the world’s largest matched fleet of ocean racing yachts. Raced by people like you, the fleet of Clipper 70s is the third-generation of one-design Clipper Race yachts.
The Clipper 70s are designed, built and proven to take on some of the world’s toughest oceans and all that Mother Nature can muster up during a 40,000 nautical mile race around the world. The yachts are kitted out with leading equipment and technology, from the wardrobe of Hyde Sails, rigging from Marlow Ropes and Sta-Lok, navigational equipment and software from Dell, Garmin, ChartCo and TIMEZERO by MaxSea, to the hulls protected by Coppercoat.
For all of us not lucky enough to race across oceans, Unicef Skipper Ian Wiggin took the time to do a guided tour of one of the stripped out racing yachts that the Clipper Race crew make their home. Let Ian walk you through some of the key features both below and on deck of the Unicef yacht that he is racing around the world.
Been following the fleet? Why not step on board and meet the courageous crew to get a sense of what they experience during the eleven month circumnavigation, when the fleet stops in a destination near you.
