Clipper Race lights up Times Square during Nasdaq MarketSite Visit

After racing some 36,000 nautical miles around the globe to its team partner’s home in New York, USA, the Nasdaq Clipper Race team had the honour of attending Nasdaq’s Stock Exchange MarketSite in Times Square for the Opening Bell ceremony.
The partnership between Clipper Race and Nasdaq signifies just how far the race has developed in its 22 year history as it continues to go from strength to strength with a diverse portfolio of sponsors.
During the visit, Nasdaq Skipper Rob Graham said: “Being able to attend Nasdaq’s MarketSite in Times Square for the Opening Bell ceremony was a fantastic experience; quite literally like nothing else I have ever done before. For my 40th birthday, Nasdaq put my photo onto the tower and now I am here it is a bit of a shock to see how big the screen is! Luckily today they are playing Clipper Race videos!”

Following the Opening Bell ceremony, which was broadcast live across four national news channels, the Nasdaq team watched as the tower played Clipper Race videos, featuring each of the eleven Clipper Race teams, to a bustling Times Square.
Damien Egan, 33, from Darwin, Australia is a round the world crew member on board Nasdaq. Speaking about the opportunity, he said: “It was great to have a behind the scenes look into how the Opening Bell process works here at Nasdaq’s MarketSite.
“Seeing the Nasdaq yacht up in lights in Times Square is pretty cool and it was great to have the Clipper Race message being up in Times Square.”
With the Clipper Race in Town, Nasdaq crew took the opportunity to return the favour and take their team partner out for an afternoon of sailing on board the team yacht on the Hudson River.
The Clipper Race will be based in North Cove Marina, Manhattan, and Liberty Landing Marina, New Jersey, until Monday 25 June when the final Leg of the Clipper 2017-18 Race begins. Before then, the Clipper 70 racing yachts will be open to the public for FREE tours at North Cove Marina from 10am-7pm daily until Saturday 23 June.
