SANYA GEARS UP FOR ACTION FILLED DEBUT STOPOVER
20 February 2018
As the Clipper Race fleet pushes hard to complete the final stretch of Race 7: The Forever Tropical Paradise Race, the organising committee in Sanya is making final touches to what promises to be a spectacular debut stopover with action at every turn.
After the arrival of the Clipper Race fleet, which will have been at sea for over three weeks, an outdoor Prize Giving ceremony will show of the city’s tropical climate, surroundings and local cuisines.
The Race Village, which will open from the final fleet arrival day, Sunday 25 February, will be home to a hive of activity for the public and Clipper Race crews to enjoy. An action-packed village of events will allow visitors to try their hand at the Lego building centre, test their sailing skills with model yacht races, show their fearless side with the Zorb Ball game area and take part in cosplay.
The Clipper Race Dome will also be open and visitors can experience what life is like on board Sanya Serenity Coast as they sail, via the power of virtual reality goggles, through the Southern Ocean with the team. Once visitors have completed their virtual Clipper Race experience, the Marlow knot tying station will test skills and before visitors head onto the pontoons to step on board on of the open Clipper 70s and find out what life is like on the modern racing yachts first hand.
Gearing up: The Clipper Race Dome is ready to go at Serenity Marina in Sanya.
And after all of that, Tsingtao Beer Zone will be serving up well-deserved cold beer and a range of food stalls will be serving up local delicacies and traditional Chinese food in the Race Village’s food court.
Laura Ayres, Clipper Race Head of Partnerships says: “Sanya is a very engaged Host Port and Team Partner and I am really looking forward to seeing the debut stopover showcase the best of what the tropical destination has to offer through its comprehensive programme of tourism, cultural and sailing activities.
“The dynamic and impressive Race Village will also offer a range of engaging activities for tourists, locals and crew members alike. It is looking like it will be a stopover to remember!”
Race 7: The Forever Tropical Paradise Race will finish in Sanya Serenity Marina in Sanya, and the latest Estimated Arrival Times can be found on the Clipper Race website. Crew are excited to explore Sanya and all it has to offer during the stopover, and you can find out more about the stopover via en.sanyatour.com .
